Silicone Primer (G790)
G790 Silicone PRIMER contains no toluene or other aromatic solvents.
This silicone primer enhances adhesion between the surface and the silicone you pour onto it. Primer G790 is suitable for all addition-cure silicones (Addition silicone…) and condensation-cure silicone types.
Most silicones typically do not bond chemically to a surface. To promote adhesion, a primer must therefore be used.
This primer works on:
-
Metals (such as aluminum, lead, iron, steel)
-
Wood
-
Some plastics (such as PETG, nylon, acrylic, epoxy, PVC)
-
Other substrates
⚠️ NOTE: The primer has an ignition temperature of 3°C (flammable vapors are released starting from 3°C). Handle with extreme care!
Application
Thoroughly clean the surface to be bonded; it must be free from dust and grease. Use a non-polar degreaser like white spirit or turpentine, followed by a polar solvent such as acetone.
You may also dilute the primer in white spirit or alcohol to improve wetting. Mixing ratio Primer:solvent = from 1:1 to 1:10.
Primers perform best in a very thin layer of about 1 micrometer. Apply the primer very thinly and without air bubbles.
The primer forms a bonding layer that requires moisture from the air. Increasing temperature and humidity accelerates this process. At room temperature and 40% humidity, allow the primer to react for 1 hour.
If it’s colder or drier, this process will take longer.
Do not wait longer than 5 hours, as the primer will lose effectiveness.
Adhesion typically improves immediately, but full results may take up to 4 days and can be enhanced by heating to 100–150°C.
Shelf Life
At least 1 year, if stored between 10–25°C and protected from direct sunlight.
